Who Issues IEC ?
The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) , Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India issues IEC to eligible Importers and Exporters.
Who are required to obtain IEC ?
All Importers & Exporters (except as exempted) shall obtain Import Export Code , without which they are prohibited from Importing/Exporting goods.
What is the Validity of an IEC
An IEC once issued will be valid till the life of the business entity , unless it is cancelled by the Issuing authority. An IEC issued shall be valid for all its branches/factories/units/divisions as mentioned in the Import Export Code License.
Can an IEC be surrendered ?
Yes. An IEC can be surrendered by a business entity if the same is not in a position to continue the business. The same shall be surrendered to the concerned DGFT who had issued the Certificate
